Short work follow-up message
Use a short message when the task is already known and you only need the current state. The best short follow-ups still include the item being discussed.
Examples you can adapt
Quick check on the launch checklist. Is anything blocked, or should I keep it as in progress?
Hey Alex, any current state on the invoice fix? A quick signal is enough.
Polite follow-up message for work
Polite does not have to mean overly formal. A useful message gives context, asks one clear question, and leaves room for a lightweight reply.
Examples you can adapt
Hi Taylor, when you have a chance, could you share where the landing page review stands? I am updating today's status and want to keep it accurate.
Follow-up message when someone has not replied
If someone has not replied, avoid assuming intent. Refer back to the item and ask whether it is still active, blocked, or no longer needed today.
Examples you can adapt
Quick nudge on the API review. Is this still moving today, or should I mark it as waiting for now?
Follow-up email for work progress
Email follow-ups usually need a bit more context than chat messages. Keep the ask near the top and make the requested update easy to answer.
Examples you can adapt
Subject: Quick progress check on onboarding QA Hi Morgan, I am pulling together today's update. Could you share whether onboarding QA is in progress, blocked, or ready for review?
Follow-up message when something may be blocked
When you suspect a blocker, ask for the blocker directly without blame. This makes it easier for the other person to name the issue early.
Examples you can adapt
Quick check: is anything blocking the billing webhook test, or is it still moving normally?
How ClearUpdate helps you write and track follow-ups
ClearUpdate groups today's items by person, drafts low-pressure wording, and lets you mark what has been copied or sent.
When replies arrive elsewhere, update item status in ClearUpdate and copy a quick update for today with blocked, in progress, completed, and paused items.
